Contractor Insurance FAQs

What insurance does a contractor need?

Public liability insurance is nearly always a contractual requirement in the construction industry, even though not a legal requirement. However, other policies such as Professional Indemnity and Personal Accident are also recommended to contractors as they will protect you and your business should something happen.

Do I need insurance before I start working as a contractor?

When you become a contractor, it can be confusing to navigate the world of insurance and which policies are required. It is always a good idea to have insurance in place in case of an unfortunate event. Not sure where to start? Call our team on 01948 820000 and they will advise on which insurance policies are available to you.

Do self-employed contractors need insurance?

If you are self-employed and work entirely on your own, you do not need employers’ liability insurance. However, it is recommended to have other types of insurance such as public liability or professional indemnity insurance.
